Whether you’re just about to put your house up for sale or have been on
the market for some months without success – there’s one important
point to remember:
First Impressions Count!
Now, you may have been told by your Estate Agent to clear the clutter. But
making a good first impression is not just about tidiness.
As an image consultant, I know just how important that is.
You’ve got 20 seconds at best to create a good first impression that will
make people want to look further and hopefully make an offer on your
property.
People don’t buy bricks and mortar. They buy a “home” and if your home
doesn’t feel right it could be difficult to sell.
It’s not just about painting everything in a neutral colour. I sold one
property on the strength of the “star patterned wallpaper” in the dining
room. And that’s just it – you don’t always know what’s going to appeal to
the potential buyer walking through your front door.
All you can hope for is that your home will appeal to some of the people
who come for a viewing – but should you be happy with that?
I’ve sold five of my own homes and all within the first weekend of being
on the market. Many of them were sold to the first person who walked
through the front door. How did I do it?
I used several different techniques and to get things just right, in one
home, ended up painting the bedroom at 3 am in the morning prior to the
first viewing. To dispel the myth about colour, I painted one wall in the
bedroom a vivid lime green. And the house sold the very next day.
I’d like to share my successful strategies with you:
